Fun Day Donation to Coppice School

April 2013

The proceeds from the 2012 Mark Fun Day were distributed to charity this week, the very deserving beneficiaries of which is The Coppice School in Bamber Bridge.  The RW Provincial Grand Master’s wish that Freemasonry in general and the Mark degree in particular should be embracing of the family and young people is ‘writ large’ in the Fun Day’s purpose.  It is to be cherished then that the proceeds are finding their way to supporting young people and families in unavoidable difficulties.

A visit to The Coppice School endorsed all that the Mark Province is seeking to achieve in this area, it being a Special School for children with severe learning difficulties, many of whom have profound physical disabilities.  Children from 2-19 years of age find an appropriate educational and social opportunity at the Coppice, which is constantly looking for ways to improve lives and learning.  The gift of the Province from the Fun Day profits will provide five adapted iPads for the children’s use, together with sufficient ‘apps’ to stimulate learning and sensory experience.  The school is just moving into this area of resources and this gift will enable them to distribute such a vital opportunity more widely throughout the age ranges.  A case of truly ‘Marking Well!’

Pictured is the RW PrGM Peter Connolly, presenting the cheque to Headteacher Liz Davies, with Sarah Seddon, the Deputy, looking on.  Also pictured is Gloria Hickson, a member of the Fun Day Committee and Rev’d Graham Halsall, the Committee Chairman.

This year’s Fun Day is once again at St Saviour’s Bamber Bridge (PR5 6AJ) on Saturday 6th July – bring the family!  Do some good!
